The Best You Can Buy!
Researched in ground fence systems extensively and purchased the SportDog system for my ¾ acre property. Glad I did. Easy to install with quality hardware........unlike other systems I looked at. Purchased primarily for our Lab puppy, but also purchased two smaller compatible collars for our two miniature wiener dogs. It maybe took a day or so for all of our dogs to associate the flags with the boundary. System has multiple settings, so you can set a vibration, beep, then mild shock. I think our dogs were shocked once each. Now, when they get close to the boundary flags, the (non-shocking) vibration is enough to alert them to turn around. $220 is a bargain for the peace of mind in knowing that my dogs will stay in the yard.

Does the job!
I have a Labrador retriever who is about 4 months old and an adult boston terrier. We had trouble with them going to neighbors houses to get petted, or the boston would run after other dogs in the neighborhood. So, we decided to go with this underground fence after extensive research of other brands. I'm very satisfied with our purchase- the installation took about 3-4 hours total.We installed the fence on approximately 3/4 of an acre. My husband used his tractor and lowered 1 of the 4 plow feet on a box blade attachment to dig the trench around the yard. This was VERY simple and took about 20 minutes. Then we just placed the wire in the trench and buried it, which took about an hour and a half or so. Take note, we had to twist wire back to the box across a spot in our yard so the dogs could run across it without getting shocked. We also had to place it across our driveway, so my husband used a skill saw with a masonry blade to cut a line across it. After laying the wire...

Two different dogs two different stories!
I have two medium size mutts. Chase is laid back but loves to run and play and Rufus is a very timid and scared of alot.First off let me say this make sure the range is adjusted on the box before putting the batteries in the collars. My husband was holding the collar in his hand inside the house (far away from the lines) and got shocked on the 5th level! Ouch! We readjusted the range to two feet from the line and truned the collar down to level 2 after that.I think the range came out of the box set on 40 feetI took chase out on a leash and let him lead me to the perimiter rather than me taking him over there and tossing a toy or treat across the line like youre instructed too. It only took him 2 times of trying to cross over the fence before he realized that he didnt wanna go anywhere near those flags. We've had this product for about 3 years, and absolutely love it. We live on a fairly busy street, and even though we have a fenced in back yard, our schnauser always found a way to get out. We even tried a screw type of stake in the back yard however, within a month, he figured out how to unscrew it from the ground. After that, we used the same steel cable to attach him to the garage, he somehow snapped the cable!It was when we went looking for him after the cable snap, that we saw him down the street, crossing the street directly in front of a car! Our hearts both jumped and we decided right then and there that since nothing else had worked, we were going to get an electric fence.We went to our local Menards, and found the SD-2000. When we first got our two dogs, Kaya and Fable, we had no idea that eventually they'd be big enough--and smart enough--to find the smallest point in our already low fence and hop it at will! One day Fable stayed out all night and that's when I came running to amazon and found this product.I won't lie, digging the hole took work: measuring, tapping the ground (we only went 1/2 inch deep, and have had no problems), placing flags, etc. If you are tired of dealing with your dogs running around--spend the day or so to make this happen.The best thing about this product is how adjustable everything is: for example, at first we wanted to have a huge warning zone so the dogs wouldn't get shocked. Very Good
I've searched for a very long time for a good electronic dog fence. At first I've purchased one of these $50 fences and that one broke down after 4-5 weeks. I wanted a rechachable dog fence but after reviewing this item, I decided to purchase it along with a battery charger.The Collar itself is very solid, a it chunky but just right for my 67lbs American Pit Bull Terrier. I ran the wire under ground aorund the fence, along crawlspace/ outside wall to prevent the dog from digging around my scrubs and flower beds. It works prefect. I don't have it set it to high, only at level 3 and it works effectively.I would purchase it again

Saved my Siberian despite my dislike of Neg. Stimulus
(Comment was also left in response to a negative review about the Humane Contain 8000)I purchased the High Tech Pet Humane Contain X-10 Rechargeable Multi-function Electronic Dog Fence which is essentially the same product with a more advanced collar to be able to operate all the products High Tech Pet has. I am NOT a fan of electric fences for dogs, however, I have a stubborn Siberian who kept escaping our yard and running over to the neighbors and killing their cats. We had to do something. (Our physical fence is 8 feet high and has a two stage barrier, meaning she has to get past a security fence placed around the original fence. Rebar was placed 4 inches appart along the bottom of the fence and she was still escaping [we live on 5 acres]).Setup took 2 hours and the RX-10 collar was charged out of the box. I know this because I tested it on myself several times before putting it on my dog. I am a trainer myself and will not use negative stimulus training unless I know...

Exactly what we needed
Ordered this system after looking at 20+ fences. We have a 9 month old, 55 lb lab that kept jumping the fence in our backyard to play with the neighbor kids. Installation took about 3-4 hours. After placing the flags and showing the dog where the safe border was, we put the collar on. After 2 or 3 zings, she quickly learned not to get too close to the flags. We've had the fence installed about a month now and couldn't be happier. Our lab can now use her doggie door to come and go as she pleases without needing constant supervision outside. She wears the collar all day comfortably and we take it off while she's crated at night. I've charged the collar every 3 or 4 days just because but I'm sure that's a little overkill. Highly recommend this system! It's a safe and easy way for a happy dog AND happy owners.

My family and I bought this as a way to keep the dog contained to one section of our back yard without putting up a chain link fence inside our wooden fence. The product has been mildly successful in achieving this goal.The product overall seems to work but the collar is of very low quality. There is a small black plastic piece that is used to close and tighten the collar. This little piece came off and broke within 15 minutes of putting it on my dog. Then the entire bracket came off and we were left to trying to "Rig" the collar to stay on. Of course this worked for about a week and now we have our dog back in areas we do not want her. I am not sure who came up with the latching mechanism for this collar but it should definitely be replaced with one solid piece like you find on most dog collars.As far as containing the dog, when the collar actually stays on, it seems to work. works very well in Florida, in salt air
This fence was purchased about 3 years ago to protect my Koi pond from possums, and herons. It has been in continuous opperation since then with no loss of fish since it was installed. Today I had to replace the woven perimiter cord because of continuity breaks due to rust at the cotter pin holders.April 2010, An update, I changed the cotter pin attachments to nylon zip connectors and resolved the rusting problem.Very succesful and a great product. April 2010. An update on this product. 2 more years have gone by and the unit still works as new. The perimiter cord does need to be changed every year or two to keep the unit working at peak performance. I bought a bulk roll of electric fence cord and keep it on hand.

Does the job
The electric fence is exactly what I thought it would be. It's no underground fancy business, but it does the job. It also is safe enough for my small 15 pound Rat Terrier while still being effective on my 80 pound Labrador. I would recommend it.

Installed and so far (may 15) no deer or rabbits. I also installed a motion sensor with two lights so when the deer get near wierd noises are emitted and lights go on. My next strategy is to add a radio that goes on when motion is detected. No self respecting deer could handle wierd noises, lights and country music.

Works well, but beware of problems
I bought this to keep free-roaming cats out of my garden. My son can hear the high-frequency sirening sound and it makes him run from the yard, fast. Since I put this in the garden a month ago, I have noticed no new cat scat. I think it does work. However, the device is sort of strange. The power is 220, and the narrow plastic enclosure for the 220 outlet does not permit any of my 120 adapters to fit into it. The manual says that there is a UL power port and there is a UL adapter with a long cord that comes with it. But there is no UL port anywhere at all, so you have to use the two 9v batteries instead. I decided to keep it since it seems to work ok on batteries. But then, the wire connectors to the batteries are so short, you have to wrestle the batteries in with more strength than my hands have. It was a husband-please job, then sustain the swearing. Oddly the manual proudly explains and shows the UL adapter with photos, but the photos do not match the device. So user - beware. If...
