Good ramp, no complaints
After looking on the internet for literally HOURS for a pet ramp that would be suitable for an SUV, I came across this one. Purchased it and we're happy with it so far. Our dog has hip dysplasia so he needed a way to get into and out of our truck without jumping or having my husband pick him up (the dog weighs 100 pounds so imagine). It's easy to open up but be careful with how you open it as you could easily smash your fingers in the process. It's sturdy enough but not "rock solid" so make sure you hold onto your dog's leash as he/she comes down or goes up the ramp. A good ramp, I would recommend it. It was also delivered quickly. We're happy and so is our dog now that he can hang out with us at the beach without feeling pain from jumping out of our truck.

A huge help for our huge dog!
At 13 years and 125 lbs our mutt, Mitch, was having trouble getting into the SUV and the full-size pick-up. I read through many reviews before selecting a product, and this one seemed the best value for the size of our dog. He goes with us everywhere and it's a relief not to watch him just stare at the back of the Jeep because he can't get up on his own. It didn't take long for him to figure out what the ramp was for, either. In addition, we've found other uses for it, (such as holding down flattened cardboard in the back of the truck.) He has slipped on it a bit when it's been wet, so be sure to always use a spotter.

Ramp sturdy, but not enough for shipping process
The ramp arrived today. Yes, it has weight (26lbs), but so does my dog ( 60 lbs),therefore, I needed something sturdy. It sets up easily and my dog took to it after a few attempts. My dog's hip strength is starting to diminish, so rather than strain my back lifting her in the car,not to mention getting covered in mud, this ramp is just the thing. I have a 4runner, so stowing it in the back is not a problem.I gave a 4 star rating because one end of the ramp arrived cracked due to shipping. Padding the ramp corners inside the box with strofoam or bubblewrap would help with the product arriving unbroken.

Pet Gear Travel Lite Half Ramp
This is a very strong and durable product which easily accomodates my older 80 pound dog. He is ramp trained and really gets a good grip, even when wet, since the surface is very gritty and it appears it will not wear off anytime soon. It folds in half and has a lock to keep it folded. We are using it on the side door sill of my 2007 Honda CR-V and I am very pleased with this purchase. The delivery time was excellent. This ramp would not be long enough, in my opinion, to use on the rear hatch door sill, especially on a larger SUV - order the longer one for that purpose so that the incline is gentler and easier on the joints when comimg down.

Happy Dog
This ramp was the real answer for us, I was lifting my 80lb lab into the car twice a day to go for walks. Now she is able to walk right up and into the back seat. She is very comfortable with the ramp and seems to enjoy the new independence it has provided her. You do need to closely supervise because it is narrow, it works for us because the door is on one side and I'm on the other. I have no complaints, I wish I had purchased it earlier.

My senior dogs are ages 11 and 12. They ride in the back seat of my SUV and while they can still hop up into the backseat, after a lot of activity they need a rear end boost from me to get in the SUV. I finally decided to get a ramp after one of my dogs had surgery. With more vet visits on the horizon I need an gentler way for him to get in/out of the car.I purchased the 42" half ramp because my dogs enter my Xterra from the side door - the height is not as tall as the rear hatch entry and thusly I would not need the longer 72" length of the full ramp. I chose the "Travel Lite Bi-fold Half Ramp" vs the "Bi-fold Half Ramp" because it was several inches narrower and weighed a few pounds less. In all photos I've seen of this ramp in use, it seems as if it were made for minivans with their wide door entry. I was worried that I may not be able to use the half ramp because the door opening of my SUV may not open wide enough, also the tire well cuts into the flat level surface in...

Great ramp!
Our Golden Retriever is starting to have occasional difficulty getting into our vehicles. After a great deal of research on Amazon and other websites we chose this ramp. He took to it like a duck to water. It's sturdy and stable. With the rounded sides (that also serve as a handle) it's quite easy to set up and take down. It slides to 1/2 the elongated size for easy storage. The weight of the ramp is manageable - it's mid-range in weight compared to other ramps.There were two valuable lessons I found in my research.1. While initially training your dog to use the ramp, stretch it out flat on the floor and let your dog walk on it and get used to it. Then, get your dog to use the ramp to get to a small height, like a favorite chair. Depending on your dog's motivation, a treat or two helps. In our case, a tennis ball worked well. Easy to Store; Easy for Pet Use; Highly Recommend
Today I am purchasing my second Smart Ramp. The ramp slides closed to 1/2 the size for storage. When you want to use it just hold up and give a yank for the unit to lengthen. We use this ramp at the edge of our bed for our elderly dog to come and go as he pleases. We are getting this second unit for the basement so our pet can get up/down from the sofa. Product is study, lightweight, and I can highly recommend this ramp over other ramps. I have tried the "steps" and they all seem too wobbly or too lightweight and the steps move while my pet is trying to go up or down and therefore he wouldn't use them. I've tried other steps which are made of aluminum and they are heavy and seem to bounce when my 40lb. dog tried to go up/down and therefore he wouldn't use that one either. This ramp does not bounce, does not move under his feet, is lightweight, and reduces in 1/2 for storage. Great product.

Safe Ramp, Wish It Was Longer
Thank you to everyone who reviewed all the ramps here on Amazon, because I read them all before purchasing this one. The safety of this one, with covered edges, are what led me to choose this over longer ones. That was more important to me, but I do wish this one was even just two or three inches longer. I've just started training the dog (we got halfway up with four treats on our first time out), but I'm sure he'll be going up it soon enough. Going down it is where I'm sure it will take longer to get him comfortable. I'm using this with a 2008 Saturn Vue. It's a touch steep, but manageable for my 85-pound lab with bad arthritis, particularly in his left front leg. I like how solid it seems -- not flimsy or dangerous at all. It's not heavy and slides easily, though I do wonder if I was shorter than my 5'6" if it would be harder to fully extend it. Right out of the box, I wished there was confirmation that it wasn't going to slide closed - or perhaps a lock - but after getting...

Have Dog-- Now Can Travel!
My 12 year old Lab was afraid to jump in and out of my SUV after hurting her leg doing just that. After much shopping around, this is a perfect solution at a great price. It's solid and secure with the hook-on belt and she walks right up with me next to her. Be sure to get your pet used to the ramp by having them walk across it a few times while flat. Seniors, think twice!
I just returned this product, but not because of any defect or quality issue. I am a mid-50's woman that found it to be much too unwieldly to fold and unfold a 3 section ramp. Even though it is fairly lightweight, you do have to hold it away from your body to fold and unfold. That put too much strain on my neck and back. I have since ordered the "Solvit" bifold ramp which is much easier for me to handle, stow away, etc. It is a few inches shorter than the tri-fold, but for my situation (much less strain on my back and neck) it was the better solution.

We like it!
Our Black lab got use to this after practicing with it laying flat on the living room floor, then, after she was comfortable, laid the ramp end on a large chair. If we didn't do this prep training, I believe our lab would not have cooperated in using the ramp. Our lab was getting "fixed" so I didn't want her jumping out of our SUV after her operation. My S.O., myself and lots of our puppy's favorite treats got her comfortable using the ramp. This process took about 2 evenings at about 15 minutes each. I still did a couple of practice sessions in the living room to keep her refreshed and reinforce the training before her operation.I like the Tri-fold so it doesn't take up as much space and that it is not heavy. There are only 2 things I didn't like. First, the latch/hook is a cheap piece of plastic which will break if I am not extra careful - I will fabricate a metal latch which will not be a big deal for me. Second, I feel this thing should have a decent handle to...

Ramp Defects
I ordered and received it in time to use for our 70 lb. dog just after her ACL knee surgery. It has worked well and helped with the extra care needed for dogs during the post-op rehab stages of this type of operation. I needed the ramp just days after it arrived so I did not have time to consider any returns or exchanges, however, there are some major complaints I would like to register now that I have some more time.#1 - Poor packaging and safety strap design - The packaging of the ramp is probably OK for retail store use, however, the shipper simply slapped a lable on the box and sent it out. During shipment the box tore in several places and the end actually was already opened. Due to the excessive motion and bouncing around the safety strap and catch was already broken upon receipt - the metal snap part was ripped out of the plastic strap.#2 - Inadequate design of the two plastic slide stops - After only two normal uses, one of the plastic slide stops broke...

Great Ramp!!!
I really like this ramp! I have a St. Bernard who has trouble getting into the back of my 4Runner at times. This ramp is great for her. If I could change anything, I'd make it a bit wider. My dog is 150 lbs and while I can see this being great for smaller dogs, extra large breeds are wider dogs so... Overall though, the width isn't that big a deal. I think, at this point, my dog just isn't all that used to using a ramp and the fact that she can see over the edges makes it a bit scary for her.I originally purchased the smaller ramp at my local pet store, but I like the larger one MUCH better - especially since I think my next car will be a Tahoe or something similar. Big dogs need big cars! The thing that I thought was so interesting in comparing the 2 ramps, the longer one is exactly as wide as the smaller one. So, if you're thinking of getting the Deluxe XL ramp for a bigger dog, there really isn't a point. The XL ramp is just longer. The regular ramp is fine...

Nice idea but.....................
I purchased this item for my 100 pound German shepherd and......he doesn't like it at all (not the product's fault, however). I like the concept and it is lightweight. It is basically made from a hard plastic with non-slip footing for the animal. It telescopes fairly easily. But.....I expected a lot more for that kind of money (I paid $107). When I opened the box, three end caps fell immediately to the ground. They will not stay in place so I had to epoxy them to cover sharp edges. I think this item is worth about half the price that I paid for it.....not a cent more. I would recommend that you spend another 40 or fifty dollars and buy an aluminum one instead. Some of the ones available are multipurpose....meaning that you can use it as a hand truck ramp, etc. Not a whole lot of engineering or otherwise went into developing this product which was......you-guessed-it, made in China!
