Best way I know to save furniture
I've been using the TurboScratcher since it came out in the early 80s as a toy and scratching item for my cats. I have NEVER paid for than about $12-13 for it, and the inserts used to be available from WalMart for 3/$9. The catnip helps get the attention for the scratching part, and once the see how much fun it is to scratch, they rarely go back to carpet or furniture. I've had more than one cat that never ONCE went for furniture because I made sure he/she had her own turbo-scratcher from the moment they arrived in my house. I have one that is a light blue from back in the 80s when everything was light blue and mauve. If left in the sun a bit too long, they do tend to get a little brittle, but while they feel a little flimsy, they are perfect for the cats. For those without carpet -- use the rubber shelf or drawer liner cut in a square or circle a couple of inches bigger than the whole toy and it doesn't move at all. Endless entertainment!
Customer Video Review Length:: 1:27 MinsIt's taken our 9-week old male kitten quite a few days to learn how to fully enjoy his new Turbo Scratcher, but it is well worth it! In the beginning he found it very entertaining to watch and he would come running whenever we moved the ball around. We've had to help him learn how to move the ball on his own, gently grabbing his paws and pushing the ball for him; now he's finally started to use it on his own and plays with it until he's wiped out. He still hasn't figured out that he can scratch the middle part, but we figure he'll learn soon now that he's started to play with it and using his claws on the ball. Plus, it's just darn entertaining for us to watch him play with it and scoot himself along the track!

The turbo scratcher is simply a plastic circular base with a ball that rolls around the track on the outer edge. It has cardboard corrugating medium as a clawing area on the inner part of the circle. It is very simple, yet highly effective. I don't know why, but this has been a success with every cat -- young and old -- that I have seen around it (15 different cats). Once they get the ball moving, it really flies around the track! The younger cats manage to pull the ball out of it within 10 minutes, but they have a blast in those ten minutes. The smartest cats realize that it is more fun when it does stay in the track, though. A word of advice: don't put this in or near your bedroom. If your cat feigns disinterest when you first bring it home, watch out if you are a light sleeper -- a couple of hours into sleep you will wake with a start to the sound of the ball whipping around the track over and over and over again. Purrfect
As I sit here typing this 2 of my cats are playing on the lounger. I have purchased other lounger/Scratchers before and have been disappointed in their quality and durability. When I first took it out of the packaging I could tell it was well made. I have 4 cats that are lazy and love to scratch everything in sight. From the moment I put it down they were on it playing, sleeping and scratching. My furniture usually takes most of the punishment but since I received it I am happy to say the lounger has. I have already recommended it to my friends with cats.

Not the original but much cheaper
I had a sweet marmalade cat loung [...] from a year ago and my cats loved it so much it became quite worn out. I looked, and found that a replacement was more than 300 dollars and I was feeling cheap. Finally I gave in and decided to replace their favorite thing. I was very surprised to find this very similar object for about 1/10 the cost. I ordered it. The cats love it, and it is about the same size, but the quality is much lower. For example, an adult human can stand on the old one without fear of damaging it. This is not the case for this flimsier version. Bottom line: at least 3/4 as good for 1/10 the price is pretty darn good. If you want to pay the higher price, get the higher quality item, and you are willing to accept a different shape: look at the cat scratchers at allmodernpet.com.

Never Believed It Would Work
After reading the reviews and losing all of my security deposit (and then some) from my last apartment due to my cat's constant scratching of the woodwork, I decided to try this item. I really had my doubts about my luck with it as my cat can be very fussy about being directed to do anything like where to scratch. At 1st, as some dissatisfied users reported, my cat showed absolutely no interest in the post. When he would scratch the woodwork, I would place him at the post and he not only showed no interest in the post, but even retracted his claws as a further insult. I thought "another waste of money." Then I remembered that one of the posts I read in the reviews was from a lady who had the same disinterested reaction from her cat and who enticed her cat to scratch the post by teasing the cat with his favorite swinging cat toy on top of and around the post. The Best Cat Scratching Post I Have Ever Purchased!
Have your cats clawed your furniture a little? Maybe a lot? We have 9 cats, and our furniture was being clawed to the point where we had to make repairs. AWESOME!!
If you told me five years ago I would PAY for a slab of corrugated cardboard I would have said you were crazy. Now I am telling you that I would be crazy NOT to buy them! The cats LOVE them, they last FOREVER and they totally curb much of the furniture scratching. I have several scattered about it corners and not a day goes by that I don't hear somebody picking at one of them. They also love the round track with the ball that has the cardboard insert in the center. The ABSOLUTE best ones are the Alpine slopes - they all fight over those but these are good too on a budget.

Couldn't resist. My cats love (to demolish) these! Cheap is the way to go... you can plant 'em around the house for cat-tastic good times. LOVE! [I got two wides and two narrows.... am trying to use one of the narrows vertically to keep one of the critters from clawing the door jamb.... not sure how that will go but I do not blame the cat scratcher!]

The cats love it.
I had gotten this specifically for one cat, who had worn out her smaller cardboard scratcher. Turns out, the only reason the other cats didn't use it was because it was too small. Now I feel like I should get a few more of these, because there is almost always a cat sleeping, scratching or just lounging on it. Even my largest cat can manage to get comfortable, and he loves the up-tilted ends.

Her Majesty is pleased!
My new kitty was starting to be unkind to the arms of my sofa, and showed no interest in the narrow cardboard scratcher box she already had. I was worried that she wouldn't know what to do with this either, but I sprinkled some of the included catnip on and put it next to the sofa, and she greeted it like an old friend. An old friend that she scratches the cr@p out of. Perfect! And it looks cute in my tan and red living room. We're both happy. Highly recommended.

My cat loves it!
This is Lucy's 2nd lounger as she pretty well scratched the life out of the 1st. (The 1st one lasted about 2 years.) She sits on it, sleeps on it, rolls all over it, and above all scratches it like crazy. Of course, sprinkling it with catnip helps a bit, too. For the price, a great little scratching lounger.

Happy cat!
Kitty forgot all about the couch with this thing. He loves the catnip that it comes with and you can refill it with catnip as well. They need to be replaced monthly, as the real scritch wears out. I recommend the double wide because kitty also uses it to just sit on.

Kitty loves it!
Wasn't sure my cat would have anything to do this as she normally loves sisal scratchers, but the second I put it on the floor she was on it and scratching (even without the catnip added yet). Once I added some catnip to it, she was in kitty heaven. I even enter the room to find her sleeping on it. Highly recommended.

A cosmic experience for my kitties!
I put the Fat Cat Kitty Hoots Big Mama's Scratchy Box Double Wide at the foot of our bed (my two cats and I share a bed) just a few feet from my roll-top desk. I keep the Cosmic Catnip behind the roll-top. All they need to hear is two inches of that roll-top going up and they are there--that's how much they love their catnip. They are addicted!!! Do you know that cats have phantom claws after they are de-clawed? (And no, I would never de-claw a cat; however, the one I have had three months longer was de-clawed when she adopted me. When I adopted the second one, I had to have her de-clawed to keep things on an level playing field.) All this is to say that, de-clawed or not, my two cats still "sharpen" their claws. Meaning: they love the scratchy box--especially with catnip all over it. Another success story for amazon. Now if only they would....
