Outstanding book- a must for people who love their cat
I can not say enough good things about this book. I refer to it more times a day than I can count. It contains vital information that all pet lovers should know, from the quality of foods we feed them to the treatments for illnesses they get. I unfortunatly got this book after I lost my beautiful Ragdoll cat to fatty liver disease. Had I gotten it while he was alive I believe there could have been hope to save him. I still have three other cats though and this book is my "Bible" when it comes to their care. My other Ragdoll was on a "prescription" diet that was supposed to be good for her. After 4 months of diarrhea (that the vet kept giving pills for which did no good), I found this book. I changed her diet, gave her milk thistle, some probiotics (for one week), and she made a 100 percent turn around. This book also contains many telephone numbers where you can order herbs if you aren't lucky enough to live in an area where pet health stores (or people...

Garlic for Cats?
As one of the veterinarians who contributed to this book, I was interested to see some of the comments, especially about garlic. Garlic is in the onion family and does contain a small amount of the onion's toxic ingredient (thiosulphate). While I have seen red blood cell damage from as little as one meal of baby food containing onion powder, I have not seen such problems with garlic. In fact, garlic is a common ingredient in many pet foods and supplements, usually in small amounts as a flavoring agent. For instance, I have recommended Missing Link for my feline patients for many years; it contains garlic, but I haven't seen any damage from it. Cats being cats, they are far less likely than dogs to eat a food that contains too much garlic. The article from TC Instincts actually says: "*continued* use of garlic or onions can *eventually* result in hemolytic anemia." This suggests, as has been my experience, that it takes long-term feeding of a significant...

It gives the reader a variety of choices in each section, so that one is able to select one thing, and if that does not accomplish all that one hopes, one is able to make another choice. Many modalities are mentioned including homeopathy, acupuncture, chiropractic care, massage, and herbal medicine. There is discussion of a healthy diet as well. Mr. Zucker interviewed a number of holistic vets from around the country and compiled their suggestions into this much awaited volume. I can recommend it highly.

Natural Remedies for Dogs and Cats
The vast majority of people today believe that commercial pet food provides a safe and healthy diet for their dogs and cats. Veterinarians, who generally receive minimal instruction in nutrition, also recommend feeding only commercial animal food. CJ Puotinen disputes this advice in her latest book, Natural Remedies for Dogs and Cats. She's interviewed dozens of holistic pet care experts and studied all the available research on pet care. Time and time again, the evidence points to commercial pet foods as the source of chronic health problems in animals. If left to themselves, dogs and cats eat raw prey that they have caught. This gives them a variety of food and nutrients. Even if prepared foods could imitate the variety, which they don't, the processing they undergo destroys the nutrients. Additionally, commercial pet foods contain a host of unhealthy products. Puotinen describes the best diets for dogs and cats, and then explains how to achieve that...

This book was a lifesaver
I have a copy of this book, and of CJ's Encyclopedia of Natural Pet Care. I raise all my dogs (I raise Jack Russells) on an all natural diet. The recipes that I found in these books helped save the lives of a litter of pups that I had who lost thier mother at 3 weeks. At that age, conventional dogfood would not have saved them. And what about the preservatives that are in commercial dog food? I cannot understand how some one can claim to love thier pets, while all the while feeding them food thats full of poison? This book has made me more aware of what the average consumer does not know, and I encourage every one to take the time to do research on BHA and BHT. Those are ingredients that you will find on most of your pet foods as a preservative. Thank You CJ for writing this book, and my pups sure do thank you too. If you start an animal on an all natural diet in the beginning, or a little at a time, it will go more smoothly then trying to change them cold turkey.

Natural Remedies for Dogs and Cats
A 5 star book for sure! CJ Puotinen has provided yet another wonderfully supportive and educational reference book along the same lines as her indispensable "The Encyclopedia of Natural Pet Care". For those of us who want to keep our pets healthy the natural way, this book offers everything from feeding the best diet for our mainly carnivore friends--a raw food diet--to making your own natural flea repellents with oodles of terrific informaiton inbetween. I have saved so much money by making my own tinctures, etc. but more important, have healthier dogs because of what I learned and practiced from these books. That means hardly any visits to a veterinarian! The added bonus is the references in the back of the book. Everything at your fingertips. You can't beat the wealth of information for the price of this book!

Rescue Remedies for cats!
This book helped me so much, in trying to find out why my cat was pulling her fur out. We, along with our Vet, had tried everything, and nothing seemed to work. A friend recommended I try Dr. Bach`s Rescue Remedy, that is used to calm people and pets. I tried it, and then bought this book from Amazon.com. I found answers I needed, in this book, and went to their web site to send an email, asking if they had a remedy for cats pulling out their fur. They recommended two remedies, which I ordered. My cat has finally stopped pulling out her fur, and seems much more happy now! This is a very helpful book, and I highly recommend it to anyone who has cats.

This could be a life-saver
I found this book when searching in desperation for something to help my 17 year old kitty who was fading. The book is beautifully written: clear, concise, easy to work with, and provides such helpful information one can get started immediately. Thanks to the information and ease of access, my kitty has revived considerably and seems likely to stick around for a while longer. The authors make it clear, very rightly, that Bach remedies do NOT address physical conditions. They do, however, support the emotional and energy resources that make healing achievable. In combination with good veterinary care this book is a goldmine. (And the authors explain how the remedies apply to humans, too, so you are getting double-value!) HIGHLY recommended

Bach Flower Remedies for Cats
I have been a believer in Bach Rescue remedy for people and animals for a long time. Recently I was fostering a beautiful kitten who was very withdrawn. I bought this book in hopes of finding specific flower remedies for him. It had several suggestions which I followed. He is much more outgoing and now wants to be with a human companion if at all possible. Unfortunately he still needs a forever home but that just takes time.

It could have been better
This book could be an encyclopedia of home remedies for dogs and cats. Over 300 pages cover perhaps all common health problems, which are listed alphabetically thus making it easy to find something, from birthing to asthma, fears, fever, car sickness, cataracts, as well as behavior problems such as chewing, car chasing, jealousy, house-training and much much more. The only disadvantage in my opinion, is that everything is briefly mentioned, taking only a couple of pages for each subject. The authors could have expanded, making this book the only one a pet owner would ever need.I do recommend it though to every house with a dog or a cat because it covers almost every illness and trouble you will come across. An experienced owner will find it interesting for the house library, but if you are a beginner you may want to use this book as an addition, "supplement". For beginners I strongly recommend "What your dog is trying to tell you".

Good Advice for Pet Owners
This book is filled with good advice for pet owners. Almost every type of pet health problem is discussed in this book. Unfortunately, because the book covers both dogs and cats some of the information is brief. This is a good reference book for pet owners. I would recommend this book to people who own both a dog and a cat and need a good overview of pet health. If you have only a dog, or only a cat, you might want to get a health book that is more detailed for your type of animal.

Should I call the Vet?
Ever consult one of those many little medical books to find out whether or not a condition you may have is simply trivial or cause for alarm? I think we all have at one time or another and this book, The Doctors Book of Home Remedies for Dogs and Cats is similar. Why is my pet being destructive? Is a cyst a serious thing? How do I clip nails on an animal with dark nails? WHEN SHOULD I CALL THE VET? This comprehensive volume contains over 1,000 tips including multiple suggestions on aging, barking, car chasing, drooling, fighting, hair balls, itching, meowing, noise anxiety, overweight, poisoning, ringworm, spraying, ticks, urinary tract infections, vision problems, worms, etc. It is not only a useful do-it-yourself book, but one that also clearly lays out guidelines as to when one should take a pet to the Vet. A must have reference for the dog and/or cat owner. A great "peace of mind" book to have on hand.

Cats Homeopathic Remedies
I have 7 inside cats and LOTS of feral cats... and this book has been such a BIG help... I have used Homeopathic remedies for about 53 years.. It works.. and as for the feral cats/kittens.. I put the remedy in their drinking water... I am not a big fan of meds.... but Homeopathic works, and is natural, and will NOT harm my precious cats.. This book is very easy to use and I would buy it again.

This book should be used with caution.
This is a very detailed book for homeopathic remedies for cats. Each remedy is well described, but if you're serious about homeopathy you'll need a competent Materia Medica. Moreover, the layout of the book follows an allopathic index, meaning by dis-ease and not by symptom. It may be useful to the novice but has nothing to do with classical homeopathy. I'd suggest you get Don Hamilton's book instead.Unless you have already used homeopathy on yourself, I'd advise against using this book. Explore homeopathy in depth before using these on you cat.
