works very well for short term
Our male cat became VERY aggressive when he got an UTI. He scared the daylights out of our female cat - attaking her. His behavior easily resolved with treatment but she was impossible to calm and couldn't seem to get over it. She wouldn't come out of "crouch", always frantic looking, hissing and big time growling. After vet visits and other tried remedy's we invested in this collar and feline pheromone spray. Both cats got a calming collar. Within 30minutes we could see a difference and by the end of the day she was able to let him near her again! (We also used the spray.) The collars were to long for our cats but we didn't cut the end off - not wanting to waste the powder. They were expensive, $15 each at petco. For our situation they were well worth it. We could totally claim the phermones did he trick, as our vet suggested. The collars were left on for about 1 1/2 months. If we run into future stressful situations we would definately buy again.

Stops excessive meowing - at a price
To start with, I am very pleased with this collar, although it does have some drawbacks. I have a 1-year old rescued cat who, while he is the sweetest, most wonderful cat in the world by day, he turns into the Tasmanian Devil at night. We have a very small house and even with the bedroom door shut, we can still hear him meowing. He has been neutered, but he has extreme seperation anxiety and meows literally non stop all night long if we shut him out of the bedroom. There is no pause in the meowing... he can go up to five hours at a stretch without taking a break. I am a light sleeper and he keeps me awake all night long. But if we let him in, our bed becomes his playground and he cannot stand it when one of us starts to fall asleep and will prompyly dive-domb or bite us to wake us up.... leading to him swiftly being shut out..... cue more howling and meowing all night long. One of the Better Pheromones
I have purchased a few different pheromones in the past 6 months. This one is my favorite. I have received many compliments on this cologne from the ladies. Save money with my method!
Feliway Comfort Zone diffusers are great for reducing stress in cats. They help prevent aggression and urine marking in the home. But, they are really expensive- $15-18 per monthly refill. I had the brilliant idea to use a $5 appliance timer (electric socket timer from Home Depot) to reduce the amount of Feliway dispensed by the Diffuser. To ensure the Diffuser is releasing product frequently, I use a timer that allows for 15 minute intervals and set it to supply electricity 1/3 of the time (ie on for 15 minutes off for 30 minutes). The timer makes the product last 3 times as long so it pays for itself in less than a month. Feel free to experiment with the timing. Perhaps you can get away with having it on for just 15-30 minutes 3 times a day, it will depend on your cat's level of stress. Messy at first but does work
I got this product after much thought and research for my 7 year old European Burmese who tends to be restless and anxiety prone. In the past he has also had problems with aggression toward another cat in my home and spraying. He has been on 5 mg of Prozac for the past 3 years and each time I have tried to wean him off the Prozac his noisy, restless behavior comes back within a week or two. I am a veterinary nurse at a feline exclusive hospital and our veterinarians are recommending these NurtureCALM Pheromone Collars for cats with anxiety and behavior issues. The feedback so far has been very encouraging. It is my hope that with the help of the NurtureCALM collar my cat will be able to be weaned off Prozac. There are several things that I don't like about the collar. It is made of a very stiff plastic like material that tends to crack and break easily. this actually works.
I have a psycho cat, you know, the kind that screams when my other cats approach her, compulsively scratches chunks of fur and skin off, and leaves little surprises for us in various parts of the house, including one foot away from the litter box. This collar is a miracle worker for her. While the obsessive scratching doesn't entirely cease (because she scratches around her collar), the other psycho symptoms are barely noticeable. Not what I thought they would be....
I used the calming collars in tandem with some calming drops for a cross-country move. I would say the calming drops worked more effectively than the collars. Based on other reviews of this item prior to purchase, I knew that the collars may or may not work on my cats. I would say that the collars did a good job - but would not recommend them on their own (if moving or in a car for an extended period of time). If you're looking for a significant difference in your cats demeanor, I would not go this route. I was also surprised by the collars themselves. It appeared that the white substance on them was the calming pheremone. I was expecting a fabric collar that was sturdier. Side note: don't use these as the cats' main collars - they break pretty easily. I put these on my cats with their regular collars still on - had to grab one who tried to make a run from the car and the calming collar broke. Just an FYI.
