Great - works for my bigger kitty just fine.
We have been using this for about 2 months now. My kitty is about 15 pounds, so this supposed to be the wrong size for him. But I knew that cats can squeeze in and out of almost everything, and I prefer the smaller hole. The quality seems just fine for the in-basement-window-pane use that we have. I'm not sure this is the one I would pick to put in a valuable thick door, but I can't say exactly why not.

Basic Cat Door Satisfies Owner and Cat Alike
The installation of this was a little bit of a nail-biter... I mean, you are cutting a hole in a door, and in this case, my bedroom door. It went smoothly, and installed in under 30 minutes. My cat is not a true fatty, but on the husky side, weighing in at 15lbs, but he fits through this door without a problem - sometimes at a full gallop, which is kind of crazy to watch. One minute he's there, running at this small hole, and the next... PLOOP!... he's gone. The one downside is that there is no liner that comes with the kit to seal the interior of the door, which might be an even bigger problem had my door been hollow. I recommend using some black duct tape, or gaffer's tape to just ring the interior cut of the door before finally installing the two frames (one on each side of the door you're cutting into). This door is basic, and made of plastic, but works as advertised and has already saved us hours of sleep when we would have...

Excellent product
This is a great product. Closes tightly, does not leak a lot of air when new. Replaced the first one after several years of use, because the insulation around the door was damaged and air leaked. Easy to install. Our 6 cats have no problem using it.

WARNING -- not best model for standard doors
This product is well-made, but the description on Amazon does not make it clear that this is not the correct model for doors of standard thickness. This model is for screens and thin panel doors; for standard doors you need . I discovered this after I had already cut out the hole in the door to our garage. I didn't want to wait for a replacement, so I improvised on the installation. I used my own hardware to mount one side and some gaffer's tape to line the inside of the door, and I think it will be OK. Minus a star because the flap could have at least come with the hardware necessary to mount in thicker doors.

Happy Cats!!! Happy People!!!
Door installed without too much trouble. All four cats can now get to the garage, their boxes and outside without us having to jump up every 10 minutes to open doors. Most of them caught on right away, we did have one slacker, but let's face it, the lure of the outdoors is usually stronger than caution and this cat finally joined in (or out). This is a great product and I can highly recommend it.

pretty good
a good product- we use it on a door to the stairs so we can heat a different zone and the cats can still get to their litter box. the only thing i don't like about it is that the side that the screws go in on doesn't have any sort of cover. the picture shows the front, but the back looks a little ugly and 'unfinished' because it has screws and plastic tracking to accept the door cover that closes the thing.

All the features I was looking for
I needed to replace a broken cat door on my interior basement door; this time around I was looking for a proper liner, back panel, and 4-way lock. This model of the Cat Mate had all of the features I was looking for. It took me an hour or two to get the opening re-cut to the new template (and it would have taken just minutes if I'd had the right coping saw), but once I got the door installed, it worked just right. The cat got used to it in a day or two (it's a bit stiffer than the old door, due to the magnet at the bottom of the flap), and I can easily adjust the latches at the bottom of the flap.

An overall good product.
I installed this door into an interior door. While the instructions are a bit lacking, the door itself is solid and well designed. If installing on a door thicker than 1", it may be necessary to get different mounting screws than the ones included in the kit. If there is one design flaw in the door, it is that the magnet keeping the door shut is good for an exterior door (to keep heat/cold in), but holds the door a bit tightly and occasionally catches the cat's foot in the door.

Good product provides years of reliable use.
We've been using the Deluxe Cat Flap for several years. At least our cats have. We need a door that we can lock both or all directions and this one does that well, with a clear visual indication of the lock position via the red pointer. After several years of use, we need to replace the locking mechanism. I figure it's a good time to get a new door. The door doesn't have airtight seals. I don't know of any that do. Tight seals would be difficult for a cat to operate and would interfer with the door's closing action. A rubber flap can have less air gap, but then you lose the locking capability.

Great for indoor use
We purchased this item to allow our cats to access the basement without having to keep a door open. The cat flap installed relatively easily (if you're handy with a jigsaw) in our hollow-core door. A magnet holds the door in the closed position, but was a bit strong for our cats who are new to flaps, so I simply removed the magnet in the frame of the product -- the door still remains closed by gravity. As other reviewers have noted, this door has no air-tight seal (actually, it has a brush-like seal) and would probably allow a modest amount of air flow if installed in an outside door. This was not a concern for us with our indoor installation. Overall, the product is reasonably well-made (as much as any bit of imported plastic might be expected to be) and serves the function we needed.

I managed to break the swinging door off during the training period with our fickle (scaredee) cat (taping it open). Although it was probably due more to my own clumsiness than anything else, this vendor sent me an entirely new unit on their own initiative! THAT is customer service to the max and I would definitely purchase from them again. Great cat flap
Almost 15 years ago we bought and installed this cat flap in the interior plywood-paneled door leading from our kitchen to the basement stairs. It served us very well, allowing us to keep our cats confined upstairs or downstairs, or give them free access to all of the house while keeping our young children away from the basement stairs. We are buying a replacement because a dog staying at our house clawed the cat flap frame off the door. We had confined the dog to the basement while we went out for a few hours. The dog is somewhat high-strung, so I don't think it's a reflection on the quality of the cat door that the dog destroyed it. The good news is that the plastic frame came off the door in pieces, and the door itself and the rough opening cut for the cat flap were not damaged. Replacing the cat flap should be only a matter of screwing the new frame onto the door.
