Great - works for my bigger kitty just fine.
We have been using this for about 2 months now. My kitty is about 15 pounds, so this supposed to be the wrong size for him. But I knew that cats can squeeze in and out of almost everything, and I prefer the smaller hole. The quality seems just fine for the in-basement-window-pane use that we have. I'm not sure this is the one I would pick to put in a valuable thick door, but I can't say exactly why not.

Basic Cat Door Satisfies Owner and Cat Alike
The installation of this was a little bit of a nail-biter... I mean, you are cutting a hole in a door, and in this case, my bedroom door. It went smoothly, and installed in under 30 minutes. My cat is not a true fatty, but on the husky side, weighing in at 15lbs, but he fits through this door without a problem - sometimes at a full gallop, which is kind of crazy to watch. One minute he's there, running at this small hole, and the next... PLOOP!... he's gone. The one downside is that there is no liner that comes with the kit to seal the interior of the door, which might be an even bigger problem had my door been hollow. I recommend using some black duct tape, or gaffer's tape to just ring the interior cut of the door before finally installing the two frames (one on each side of the door you're cutting into). Excellent product
This is a great product. Closes tightly, does not leak a lot of air when new. Replaced the first one after several years of use, because the insulation around the door was damaged and air leaked. Easy to install. Our 6 cats have no problem using it.

WARNING -- not best model for standard doors
This product is well-made, but the description on Amazon does not make it clear that this is not the correct model for doors of standard thickness. This model is for screens and thin panel doors; for standard doors you need . I discovered this after I had already cut out the hole in the door to our garage. I didn't want to wait for a replacement, so I improvised on the installation. I used my own hardware to mount one side and some gaffer's tape to line the inside of the door, and I think it will be OK. Minus a star because the flap could have at least come with the hardware necessary to mount in thicker doors.

Happy Cats!!! Happy People!!!
Door installed without too much trouble. All four cats can now get to the garage, their boxes and outside without us having to jump up every 10 minutes to open doors. Most of them caught on right away, we did have one slacker, but let's face it, the lure of the outdoors is usually stronger than caution and this cat finally joined in (or out). This is a great product and I can highly recommend it.

pretty good
a good product- we use it on a door to the stairs so we can heat a different zone and the cats can still get to their litter box. the only thing i don't like about it is that the side that the screws go in on doesn't have any sort of cover. the picture shows the front, but the back looks a little ugly and 'unfinished' because it has screws and plastic tracking to accept the door cover that closes the thing.

All the features I was looking for
I needed to replace a broken cat door on my interior basement door; this time around I was looking for a proper liner, back panel, and 4-way lock. This model of the Cat Mate had all of the features I was looking for. It took me an hour or two to get the opening re-cut to the new template (and it would have taken just minutes if I'd had the right coping saw), but once I got the door installed, it worked just right. The cat got used to it in a day or two (it's a bit stiffer than the old door, due to the magnet at the bottom of the flap), and I can easily adjust the latches at the bottom of the flap.

An overall good product.
I installed this door into an interior door. While the instructions are a bit lacking, the door itself is solid and well designed. If installing on a door thicker than 1", it may be necessary to get different mounting screws than the ones included in the kit. If there is one design flaw in the door, it is that the magnet keeping the door shut is good for an exterior door (to keep heat/cold in), but holds the door a bit tightly and occasionally catches the cat's foot in the door.

Cat Door
This is a really well designed basic cat door. I ordered a 2nd one :) It has a soft flap that doesn't catch on our cats tail and is very quiet. It also comes with a solid flap you slide into the front if you want to keep your cat from going out. We have no need for it though. The door easy to install. The solid flap slide is used as the template for cutting the hole out. This works out a lot better than a diagram on paper, it's rigid and easy to trace around. It's not weatherproof, I assume it was designed for indoor use only. We installed it on a 6 panel door and it has some high low points where air can pass through, very minute( 1mm or less). Our door has a wood grain texture so it would never be flush anyways. We intend on using some silicone caulking eventually but it keeps odors and tracking at bay just as is :) The flap is kept in place by a magnet that's hidden the frame on the bottom. This leaves a very neat appearance and keeps the flap taut...

Works great for indoor use
Our cats' litter boxes are kept in the office room closet. We wanted a way to keep the door closed (keep the stink in) where they could still go in and out. This cat flap is the perfect solution. It was very simple to install (hardest part was just cutting a hole in the door!) and it really does trap the odor inside. Depending on the type of door you own, it may or may not still leak air through... the fit on ours is pretty tight though. I'd recommend introducing the new door/flap to your cat in steps. We kept the flap off for the first few days and let the cats get used to jumping through just the hole. Once we installed the flap, I took turns putting each cat inside the litter box room and opening the flap a little to show them they could push through it to get out. They were extremely hesitant at first... the magnet at the bottom is heavy and snaps back into place very easily, so I think they were nervous it would catch a paw or tail. Good but not good air blockage
The soft flap is very clear, and the magnets at the bottom work well and you get as good of air blockage around the flap as you're going to get with anything. The thing is there is this solid panel you can drop into place to block it. Well the plastic tabs in the frame to hold that panel have holes behind them which is a place for air to get through. Also the screw holes are slightly raised on the back so the whole frame doesn't sit tight against the wall or door. It's not a lot of air that's going to come through but it certainly wasn't well designed for blocking cold air.

I bought 2 of these doors, they are all I wanted! I used them for indoors they are perfect, they fitted the doors and left no open space between the thickness of the door, which seems to be a problem with other doors. I used to have to open my bedroom door for my cat, that was a pain! Now the go in and out when ever they want! It took them a couple of weeks to get used to them but once they get the hang of it... no more waking up in the middle of the night to open the door!

Fantastic product.
This door is the best I have ever used. Super easy to install and is much better received by my cats than smaller doors. If you want to install a cat door on an interior door that is the hollow design, this door is the one for you. It doesn't leave the gap between front and back that other doors do. The larger opening is, not only great for large (fat) cats, it's spacious, open design is less intimidating to skittish felines. The door installed in 30-45 minutes and all three of my cats use it without issue. F.Y.I : I have found that you should never try to force a cat to use a newly installed pet door. Just install it and let them discover it in their own time.

Works well for my Maine Coon.
I needed a cat door large enough for my Maine Coon to fit through. He was 17 pounds at the age of 1 year old, and the standard 6 inch size door was too small for him. He wouldn't even try to use it, he'd just stand on the other side and cry. Hopefully when he reaches full size this door will still be sufficient since the next size up is significantly larger. I purchased this door to be used indoors. I don't know if it would work as well for an exterior installation. The door doesn't have much in the way of insulation for exterior use. I haven't used the locking mechanism yet. It seems a bit flimsy, but since I haven't tested it I can't say it doesn't work well. For the way I need to use this door, it works well. This door was the least expensive one I could find that had locking capabilities.
