Great for young corn snakes
I use it on my 20 month old corn snake's "bedroom". (I hate the word "cage" so I call it her bedroom, it's really a 20 gallon fishtank.) It's just the right heat, anything bigger would get too hot for a corn even in a 55 gallon tank. Anything much stronger could cause burns. When she moves to the 55 gallon "bedroom", I'm going to use two of these next together so that she gets the same temperature she's used to and won't run the risk of burns. I've never had any problems with her getting a respiratory infection (yes snakes get colds too, they're also more prone to them when they're too chilly) and I think that this product is partially responsible for her good health.Just a side note--when it gets really cold in the winter, I will actually move her so that she's on the heat pad right before I go to bed. It's kinda like tucking a child in for the night. It's easier for a warm reptile to move to the cool spot than for a chilly reptile to move to the warm spot.Another...

Perfect for heating a hermit crab home throughout a cold winter
We've had hermit crabs for years now - this year - with the cost of heating fuel, I wanted to keep the temps down in the house - I can put an extra sweater on the kids - but what about Hermie I and II? I bought this little item - slapped it on the side of their tank (outside) - put their water bowl on the inside close to the heat - and whalla - perfect warm humid environment. Even though the house is usually below 70 - Hermie I and II will come out and play - they did move their hermie huts to be a bit closer to the heat source - but not directly next to it. I haven't even noticed my electric bill going up at all - but my gas bill (heat) has certainly gone down - and thats a good thing !

I've been keeping reptiles for nearly 20 years and have used a variety of different products, including various brands & sizes of undertank heat pads. In my opinion, the heat pads made by Zoo Med are some of the best (I only say this because there are a few other brands I have not tried personally). In the very least, they blow the ones made by Exo-Terra out of the water.Before I go on, I want to emphasize that if you use these heat pads on the bottom of any caging, you MUST raise the bottom level of the enclosure to prevent it from pinching the cord of the pad. Most heat pads in general come with little rubber "lifters" to do this for glass tanks, and the instructions also go over this. If you do not follow this step, the pinching WILL cause the heat pad to malfunction, either getting too hot or not at all. Works great for my leopard gecko
I've been using this heat mat for almost 3 years now in one of my leopard gecko tanks. Great price for 3 settings, I prefer this over UTHs from ZooMed or Zilla. The low setting usually keeps the floor temp from 90-93F, perfect for my big male's tank. I'm a bit surprised to see this only has one other review.

I have a 125 gallon fish tank and it was hard to find a heater that could keep the water warm with the right price. I went to different pet stores to price a heater it was less watts and more money. I purchased a aquarium heater from another source in which i was very dissatisfied, it worked 3 weeks and stopped. I decided i would give it one more try, so i order the Hydor Theo Submersible Aquarium Heater 400w UL from amazon and i have been very pleased with it. I did find out it is always better to get anything electrical with the UL (certified by Underwriters Laboratories) which is government approved. I would highly recommend this product also i am very pleased with Amazon's service..

great heater!
got this not too long ago and so far it was been awesome! I have it as the lone heater fully submerged in my 90 tank and it heated up the tank pretty fast. its been consistantly at 82f with no fluctuations at all. would recommend to anyone with a large tank

Does the Job
This is a nice choice for a tank that holds up to 7 gallons. It's totally submersible, ACCURATE, has a very effective thermostat, and is fairly unobtrusive. One feature I like is that its light glows while the water is heating and shuts off once the correct temperature has been reached. It's a good fit for a tank such as the Eclipse 3, especially if you want to house a betta (it also works well in an Eclipse 6); the Theo allows me to acclimate new fish at 86º for a week or so to rid them of any ich they might be harboring, after which it's easy to gradually reduce the temperature to my (and their) preferred 82º.I also use Marineland Stealths, which I like because they're plastic but frankly, it bears mentioning that Marineland's "lifetime guarantee" carries an Orwellian caveat, i.e., some Stealths are more guaranteed than others. Rather than providing mail-in product registration to activate the warranty, you're expected to hang on to your receipt...well...for a lifetime (yeah,...

Right Choice, Right Price
I was only hesitant to purchase this because I needed to use it for a ten gallon tank (It's designed for a 7gal) and this was the most affordable option. I urge you to not be anxious yourself, however, as this heater is splendid. It looks reasonably nice and will heat your water (even in a ten-gallon tank); what more can I say? If you need an aquarium heater and have a 10gal, don't sweat it. Just buy it.Also, it's worth mentioning that the heater doesn't look exactly like the one in the main picture. It's shorter and fatter (proportionately at least...) than pictured. This isn't a bad thing. Just don't freak out, because you ARE getting what you ordered.

Not too hot, not too cold
I bought a Marineland 10W heaters for my 2.5 gallon tank, but found that it overheated the water way too much. That heater may have a sensor that tells it when the water temp is too cold, but it does not shut off when the water temp skyrockets above 78 degrees Fahrenheit.This heater, on the other hand, while larger and more obtrusive, does a much better job in regulating water temperature. I never have to worry about finding my tank temps in the high 80s the way I did with the other heater. Also, the fact that it has a regulator dial is a huge plus. While the dial calibration may be off by a degree or two, it does work. You turn it up, the water temp goes up (but not too high). Also, the little indicator light is a nice way of checking that the heater is on and working.Even for small tanks, I would skip the unregulated 7.5W and 10W heaters and go with this one.

Works like a charm.Connect the Heat Mat monitor's power cord into the wall, then connect the seedling heat mat's power cord into the monitor.To set the degrees is very easy. Hold down the button "SET" until the numbers are blinking. Then using the up and down arrows, set the desired temperature then press the "SET" button again to stop the blinking. Also press down the "UP" button for 6 seconds for readings in Fahrenheit or hold down the "DOWN" button for 6 seconds for readings in Celsius.There is a little wire with a plastic white tip that hangs from the monitor.Push the white part into the soil for temperature reading.(Once temperature is set, do not be alarmed when your heat mat reaches its maximum temperature you set it to then the Heat Mat monitor temperature will go up and down 3 degrees to prevent over heating)This is very helpful for starting seeds.

You put in the maximum temp (i.e, 90 or 92) degrees and this thermostat will automatically kick on if the temp gets 2 degrees less (88 or 90 degrees respectively). This means you are not going to get too much variation in the warm spot hide which is a great thing but you CAN NOT change this variance. I don't see a real reason you need to though. - The probe cables are perfect length and since they are designed for soil applications, they can be buried in substrate.
